How to enjoy the best of Tenerife Carnival
Tenerife Carnival is music, color, partying and many plans for children and adults. The island is already preparing to host one of the biggest events of the year and the time has come to start dusting off the costume. But don’t be fooled… although the most famous is in the island’s capital, there are many festivals throughout the length and breadth of Tenerife that are worth knowing.
As a Tenerife establishment, at Hotel Suite Villa María we are also excited about the arrival of the Tenerife Carnival. It is not only an opportunity to enjoy the best party, but also to escape from the hustle and bustle with a few days of rest in our establishment.
If you don’t want to miss anything of what is one of the best parties in the world, stay tuned to our recommendations. We invite you to discover how to enjoy the Tenerife Carnival with three alternatives, suitable for all tastes and ages.
Tenerife Carnival, the party that is lived in the streets
The essence of Tenerife Carnival is the popular atmosphere that is created in the streets. For more than a week, all corners of the island surrender to this celebration, in which there is no place for offense and whose spirit is the link between the attendees and the characters they play with their costumes. As each person has his or her own tastes, we propose up to three different appointments to set up this party:
Santa Cruz de Tenerife: the epicenter of carnival
If this is the first time you enjoy these dates on the island, you should know that the Carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is experienced in very different ways. There are many important dates that are marked on the calendar, but the most famous are the Murgas final contest (a competition of groups that develop critical and ingenious songs), the gala to elect the Queen of Carnival, the Big Parade, the Coso (another important parade) and the burial of the Sardine.
If, on the other hand, you are looking to get to know the party thoroughly in the streets, the best thing to do is to venture into the nights of celebration or the Capital Daylight Carnival (on 29th February). In that case, these are our recommendations:
– Look for an original costume, but one that is comfortable. You will be standing for many hours and no one will notice if your sneakers don’t wear with the rest of the outfit.
– Get into character and don’t hesitate to interact with the rest of the attendees. You’ll find more friends than you think!
– Establish a meeting point with your companions, in case you get lost.
– Look for the best spots in the city to enjoy the party. For example, in La Noria Street you will have the opportunity to get to know the traditional Carnival bars, whose hosts are some of the city’s historic murgas. If you are looking for a party, there are several epicenters, such as Weyler Square, Castillo street, “el Orche” -one of the busiest areas in recent years, between Robayna Street and Calle Méndez Núñez street-, Príncipe Square and La Candelaria Square.
As we already mentioned, it is also worth going into the Daylight Carnival, one of the most popular events of these dates. It is conceived as a day of enjoyment suitable for all ages and on it you can breathe in the authentic spirit of this festivity. On February 29th, from 1pm and until the body holds out, the city fills up with live performances from all the stages in the city, inviting everyone to dance. If you are also going with children, you can also go to the Marítima Avenue and have a great time at any of the many fair attractions available.
Rhythm and sunshine from Tenerife South
Near our hotel, in Arona Municipality, one of the most important carnivals of the island is also celebrated. The best thing is that it allows tourists to enjoy the color and fun of this party, but in a more relaxed and familiar atmosphere. Of course, it also guarantees the best climate on the island, with sunny days, perfect for outdoor plans.
